Application to Perform at State In-Service
Convention The South Dakota Bandmasters Association has had a long, proud history of excellent performing groups at our annual convention in Brookings. To help insure this tradition, a procedure has been set in place to for application for the 2011 convention scheduled February 11-12. All bands wising to apply must fill out the application at the bottom of this form. A recorded performance of your band must also accompany this application. The Quality Of The Recording Will Make A Difference In The Selection We ask that this tape include only two numbers of contrasting styles to help expedite the selection process. All applications and mandatory tapes will be sent to Bob Goheen and Kevin Kessler, with the deadline being one week prior to All State Band in March. The tapes will be reviewed and the selection of convention bands will be made during All State Band. You will find Bob Goheen and Kevin Kessler's address below. The tapes will be reviewed by a committee of five including SDBA President Bob Carlson, SDBA Past President Patty Baule, Convention Bands chairmen Bob Goheen and Kevin Kessler, and two college representatives. The judging will be blind to eliminate any questions of prejudice. Tone, intonation, technique and style are some of the major considerations while listening to the tapes. It is suggested that you budget for a convention performance without knowing of your success as a precautionary measure. All applicants will be notified whether they have been successful or unsuccessful. Please be aware that if accepted, you must limit yourself to 30 minutes of music.
