50th Annual South Dakota All State Band

The 50th annual South Dakota All State Band meet in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on March 23, 24 and 25, 2000.  This 170 member select group of young musicians performed a grand finale concert on Saturday evening at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science beginning at 8:00 P.M.

The guest conductor was Mr. David Holsinger. Mr. Holsinger was commissioned jointly by the South Dakota Bandmasters Association and the South Dakota High School Activities Association to compose an original work for concert band.

The South Dakota All State Band  gave the world premier of Festiva Jubiloso at the grand finale concert.  The entire program was as follows.

  • Athletic Festival March - Pokofieff

  • Chorale And Alleluia - Howard Hansen

  • Festival Jubiloso - David Holsinger

  • Ballet Exaltare - David Holsinger

  • A Slavic Farewell - Agopkin/Bourgeois

Earning Four Year medals were:

  • Sarah Winters, Sioux Falls O'Gorman - Flute

  • Elizabeth Buell, Sioux Falls Washington - Clarinet

  • Nina Englin, Rapid City Central - Clarinet

  • Tasondra Huyck, Brookings - Clarinet

  • Mindi Kieffer, White Lake - Trumpet

  • Mari Erickson, Sioux Falls Washington - Horn

  • Zarah Mattox, Sturgis - Horn

  • Dayna Sigl, Lennox - Tuba

Also part of the SD All State Band Celebration is the annual concert by the South Dakota Intercollegiate Band. This group was first organized in 1990. It consists of students selected from the various colleges and universities within South Dakota.
