South Dakota Bandmasters Association

South Dakota Bandmasters Association

Hall of Fame Award

In 1992 the South Dakota Bandmasters Association created the  Hall Of Fame Award.  The intent was to honor Band Directors from within the state of South Dakota who have had a great impact on Music Education.

Each year, SDBA members are allowed to nominate individuals who they feel should be considered for this award.  The SDBA membership votes on each nominee at the February general meeting of the SDBA.  This meeting takes place during the annual SD Music Convention held on the campus of South Dakota State University.

If a nominee receives votes from two thirds of the general membership, they are inducted into the SDBA Hall of Fame.  The following month, during the annual SD All State Band Grand Finale Concert, the inductee is formally inducted into the Hall of Fame and presented with a plaque from the SDBA.  A larger plaque bearing the inductee's picture and biography is also created and are on permanent display at the Shrine to Music Museum located on the campus of the University of South Dakota.
